You don't need a big software budget to make better listings. Here are free options, all checked on official pages, for the three jobs that take sellers the most time: writing listings, finding keywords and editing photos.
Start with what's built in: eBay's AI description tool
eBay UK says that when you create a listing you can select "Use AI description", and its AI will suggest an item description. You can use it, edit it or write your own. eBay also reminds sellers that AI doesn't always get it right, and sellers are responsible for checking their listings are accurate. eBay's listing guide says titles can be up to 80 characters, so use them for the brand, model, size and colour.
Keyword research for Etsy
eRank is a keyword and listing research tool for Etsy sellers. It has a free plan; paid plans start at Basic $5.99/month (USD).
Product photos
- Pixelcut: free plan, with Pro at Pro $10/month ($8/month billed yearly) (USD). Handy for background removal.
- Photoroom: Pro is Pro $12.99/month ($7.50/month billed yearly) (USD), and a free trial is offered.
- Canva: free plan for banners, shop graphics and social posts.
Writing titles and descriptions
ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude all have free plans. Give them the facts (materials, size, condition, what's in the box) and ask for a title and a short description. Then check every detail against the real item. Grammarly has a free plan for a final spelling and tone check.
A quick checklist before you publish
- Is every claim true for this item (size, material, condition)?
- Does the listing follow the marketplace's own rules?
- Do the photos show the actual product, not just an AI-edited ideal?
